There is no telling……what this little guy aims to turn into. On the meadow where we met him, we saw a lot of these:
…and these:
…and these:
I’d like to think that he became one of these:
(If anyone can enlighten me with regard to names and species, I’d be grateful.)
All pictures taken in the Engadin in June of this year.
Beautiful photos!
The Unusual Suspects. 🙂
Wonderful photos – in the last one you can almost feel that he wants to tell you something important !
🙂
Yes — he seemed rather interested in that big black thing pointed at him.:)
These are fabulous.
I love the first, but the light in the second is wonderful.
Wow
great photos!
Another professional shot 🙂
Hehe, I wish. In fact, it was the first week with the macro lens (belated wedding gift to ourselves) and I had wanted to go to Switzerland precisely because I remembered the amazing meadows from a trip about twenty years ago. Fortunately, the Husband didn’t mind spending a lot of time on this trip just hanging around taking photos of critters. (I am a lucky woman.)
Cool Macros! The last bug, I have no idea what it is, looks to be giving you the stink eye!
The closest I could find that matches the black caterpillar was the Giant Leopard Moth.
The last two photos are the Iridescent Blue Moth.
Thanks — I agree he really looks like one (http://bugguide.net/node/view/284841), or at least a European cousin.
These are very cool captures!
Stunning, thanks for sharing.
Great photos! I know the butterflies in 2 and 3 are fritillaries. Your guess is as good as mine on the others. 😉
Thanks, that helps! It seems that these are called Scheckenfalter in German (Schecken- meaning mottled and Falter being a term for butterflies and moths). Learn something every day! 🙂
