Hail in August

Well, it’s a good thing I took those snapshots of the nasturtium this morning — for now it’s gone. There was a freak hailstorm that lasted perhaps ten minutes but flattened everything unprotected. The hail banged so hard against the windows that I worried they would break, while our neighbour was concerned about the shingles on her roof.

Charlie was nowhere to be found but turned up later, somewhat wet but otherwise unharmed — she must have found shelter somewhere.

The tomato stems were lying flat on the ground — we bound them back up and hope they just got bent, not broken.

Will assess the rest of the damage tomorrow.

Belated Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

I realize I’m way too late for last week’s photo challenge but I took these snaps with my phone this morning and find them rather suitable. And I love the strong colours!

And speaking of stinging insects, if you have ten minutes to spare, do watch this adorable Soviet version (with English subs) of Winnie the Pooh. Move over, Disney! 🙂

Random cat post III

Charlie, caught in mid-yawn

Unfortunately, the camera in my phone decided to focus on the trellis — but the photo still makes me smile.
