Weekly Photo Challenge: Comfort

If you’ve been ordered bed rest, there is a lot of comfort in having a cat keep you company.:) And as far as Isla is concerned, I could be sick all the time — bed is her favourite place, but it needs to have a human in it.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sunset

Yes, I’m still here. Have been lying flat on my back with a wet facecloth in my face, a splitting headache, almost 40 °C fever, a painful ear-drum inflammation and what has turned out to be pneumonia. But this morning the husband declared: “Hey! You don’t look half dead anymore!”, so things must be looking up.

Thought I’d sneak in this photo I took one evening not long before I got ill because the sky looked so fascinating, almost as if you could touch the various layers. Here’s also one with just sky taken shortly after but I think it works better with the “skyline”, as it were.

I’d better get back to bed. Don’t rat me out to my doctor.;)

Rare Visitor

One thing I like about having a garden is that it attracts its fair share of butterflies (I love butterflies). We usually get European Peacocks, Cabbage Whites, Small Tortoiseshells, Common Brimstones and with luck the occasional Swallowtail. Lately, a Red Admiral has been circling the honey-smelling ivy but seems a bit intimidated by the many bees that hang out there. Last week, however, I spotted someone I had never seen before:You can see he’s easy to miss — if you don’t look closely, he could be just a dried leaf like the one he is sitting on.

(Cellphone pics only, I’m afraid.)

At any rate, I finally looked him up (can you tell I’m still working on a boooring project?) and it seems to me he’s a Speckled Wood. The German name translates to “Forest Board Game” — I can see why.
